Simulation of Metro Train Fire in an Underground Station of Tehran Metro Line 7
Authors
Abstract:
In this research a fire scenario was simulated in one of the stations of the line 7 of Tehran's subway system. The Line 7 is under construction and the ventilation system is under design. Fire was set for a stopping metro train at the platform of the station. A 160 meter length eight-car metro train with the forth wagon on the fire was studied. The heat release rate is based on a quadratic function with the maximum of 10 MW. The Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) software was used for fire simulation, in which, the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) method is performed to analyze the flow field. The combustion is based on the mixture fraction model. The designed ventilation system for smoke evacuation was evaluated with setting related boundary condition for the studied computational domain. The results for the temperature, concentration of CO and soot for all the locations in the platform area were obtained. The results depict that when the smoke ventilation system is on operation, the height of smoke is on a safe limit; moreover, the concentrations of CO is much lower than the limit reported for a safe evacuation of passengers from platform area.

full textMetro Station Operating Costs: An Econometric Analysis
This article develops an econometric analysis of metro station operating cost to identify factors that create variation in cost efficiency. Stations operating costs can be classified amongst the semifixed costs that a metro faces in the sense that they do not vary proportionately with metro output. They may therefore be important in determining the degree of returns to density. This article see...
full textControlling Train Power Consumption with Energy Storage Based on Fuzzy Control - Case Study on Line 3 of Tehran Metro
New high-speed trains need modern energy management methods to reduce energy consumption. A fuzzy method based control method was used to solve this problem in this paper and evaluated the results on basis of data in Tehran metro line 3. Recovering the maximum amount of train kinetic energy when it is in the braking mode and optimal division of traction systems demand between energy storage sys...
full textMonitoring of urban subway lines subsidence Using satellite radar interferometry method (Study area: Part of Tehran Metro Line 7)
Nowadays, satellite radar interferometry method plays an important role in calculating natural and artificial displacements, including displacements caused by floods, earthquakes, landslides, drilling of unauthorized wells, drilling of urban tunnels, etc. Metro tunneling is very important due to the importance of preventing irreparable financial and human losses. In Tehran, especially due to th...
full textA Budgeting Model for the Safety Unit of an Under Construction Metro Station in Tehran Using a Robust Optimization
Background: The construction of metro lines is a high-risk project. Using a budget-based model for the safety units of metro construction projects can help safety managers to spend optimal budget allocation. The purpose of this study was to plan a budget model based on safety unit performance in an under construction metro station for better budget allocation using robust optimization. Methods...
